This is a calm and simply written book with pleasant illustrations to address what can be a complex issue, as well as a basic issue.
Being kind is not always easy and can even be confusing, as well as difficult, for children and adults alike. This book addresses the many forms kindness can take and the difficulties that can arise. The subject is addressed without speaking over the heads of the children to whom the book speaks; nor does the author talk down to them. By the end, the author had built up powerfully to the hope of what could be if little kindnesses grew into the norm of life, all with a few well selected words.
The illustrations do not take attention away from the words, rather they both complement each other well, with the illustrations portraying the emotion in the words and vice versus.
