Hanukkah Cookies with Sprinkles By David A. Adler/ Illustrated by Jeffrey Ebbeler

The illustrations are expressive and engaging.

The story covers a very important part of Jewish life, the giving of tzedakah. The writing is smooth and keeps the attention.

There is one downfall, in my opinion. In order to give the main character someone to give tzedakah to, the author provided a needy character that should have been receiving aid from the adults long before the events of the story take place, since tzedakah is the Jewish way.

In a nutshell, I feel the illustrations are lovely and energetic, while the story has a good basis and moral. However, the moral came off a bit contrived.

Give it a try and decide for yourself.
